Read this terrrific op ed in today’s WSJ on our nation’s ridiculous, costly, and increasingly incomprehensible attachment to federally-subsidized food-to-fuel schemes and the havoc they are wreaking across the globe:
…All it took was a mere global “food crisis.” Last week chief economist Joseph Glauber of the USDA, which has been among Big Ethanol’s best friends in Washington, blamed biofuels [...]

I love it when politicians stick their noses in things and make policy on stuff they know nothing about.
For years, Congress has been pushing corn ethanol and taxpayers have paid big subsidies for this alternative form of energy.
Well, now we are starting to see the consequences of politicians interfering with something they know little about.
More and [...]

The GAO just released a report called ”Congressional Directives: Selected Agencies’ Processes for Responding to Funding Instructions,” or in layman’s terms - Earmarks: How They Detract from Agencies’ Priorities.
The agencies that the GAO looked at were the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers’ Civil Works programs.
CAGW pulled from each [...]

Last week I wrote a blog over the environmental concern with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) – they contain mercury. Congress has banned the incandescent bulb by 2012 so consumers will more than likely be looking to CFLs for most of their lighting.
Well, here is another interesting article from WorldNet Daily on Great Britian. The UK Environmental Agency is issuing [...]

Congress just loves to micromanage our lives. Now they are determining the kinds of light bulbs we should use.
One of the provisions in the energy bill that taxpayers are starting to read about is the mandate that bans the incandescent bulb by 2012. That means consumers will be forced to purchase Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs or CFLs, unless something else comes along. [...]

On Thursday, December 6, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 6, the “Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.” This bill is more than 1,000 pages long and virtually no member of the House, other than those who crafted the legislation behind the closed doors of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) office, had time to [...]

It now appears the House energy bill will be voted on tomorrow (Thursday). It has just been made available and weighs in at 1,061 pages! CAGW will be going through and looking for the most egregious sections. Here’s the energy-bill.pdf - comment on your findings or email blog@cagw.org

The House is attempting to vote on and pass a new energy bill today without releasing the full text of the bill. Here’s more on CAGW’s position on the legislation.

Most of Washington is breathless as the town impatiently waits to see the energy bill, not written in a House or Senate committee with bipartisan input, but in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Capitol Hill office. We expect it to be bad, very bad. Can you say higher taxes? More subsidies for corn ethanol? Higher food prices? Higher electricity costs? This is [...]

Many of you are old enough to remember the 1970’s…when energy prices skyrocketed, there were long lines to get gas, and your license number, whether it was an odd or even number, determined the day you could fill up your tank. Red and green flags were set out in front of gas stations to inform [...]

Today’s WSJ Online points out ($) that many of the private-sector entrepreneurs, those mad-cap, high-flying, risk-taking venture capiltalists, are backing companies who aim to solve our so-called “global warming crisis” are really all about climbing on the federal subsidy bandwagon, getting in on the ground floor of federal handouts for unproven and, so far unprofitable, [...]
