The left-of-center Brookings Institution posted some testimony on lobbying and ethics reforms today and, without having read all of their presecriptions for long-term reforms, they seem to accurately diagnose the main problem when it comes to earmarking, which is the near absence of real transparency. That, and the congenital inability of politicians to simply say “NO” when asked to fund some [...]

Talk about a self-serving pork-barrel project. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) is forcing the City College of New York to name three projects after himself - the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service, the Rangel Conference Center, and The Charles Rangel Library. Later today, porkbusting Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) will try to [...]

Historically more bad legislation gets passed in the Senate and it is where good laws go to die. And her preening over the “sweeping ethics reform” package is amusing. As we and others have amply illustrated, the so-called earmark reform Congress passed was weak [...]

This should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone, but just in case you need confirmation that Congress under the current leadership is even less appealing than it was under the Republican leadership, here it is.
If you want to know why, go here, and here, and here, and I am getting tired of typing already….
